GlossaryHandover Date

Handover Date

The date the developer hands the completed unit over to the buyer.

Off-Plan Basics

Handover is the point at which construction is complete, the buyer inspects the unit (raising any snags/defects), settles the final payment instalment, and receives the keys and — once formalities clear — the title deed. The SPA specifies a target handover date, usually expressed as a quarter and year (e.g. 'Q4 2026').

Why It Matters

  • Handover dates in off-plan contracts are targets, not guarantees — delays of 6–18 months are not unusual across all six markets PropSentral covers.
  • Most SPAs include a grace period (often 6–12 months) before late-delivery penalties or refund rights are triggered.
  • Sort listings by handover date to plan capital deployment, mortgage timing, or rental-income start dates.
